FAFSA Deadlines

Time is of the essence, especially when it comes to submitting your FAFSA application.

Time is of the essence, especially when it comes to submitting your FAFSA application. In order to receive the maximum amount of aid you qualify for, file your FAFSA as soon as possible starting January 1st. When it comes to FAFSA, time is money. The federal government has set a June 30th deadline each year for FAFSA submissions. However, other deadlines may be set by your state and college. State deadlines are often earlier than federal deadlines. To find out information regarding your school’s deadline, remember to contact the financial aid office. The FAFSA corrections form must be filed by September (date varies by year).  For example, for the 2009-2010 form, corrections must be filed by midnight on September 15, 2010.

Remember your must fill out a FAFSA form to be eligible for state and federal aid. The quicker you act the more advantageous this process will be for you.

Helpful Hints: Pay very close attention to deadlines!

  • Know your school’s definition of deadline. Is it the receipt date or the process date/time of your FAFSA application?
  • The federal government considers the receipt date/time to be when you submitted your FAFSA application.
  • Print out your confirmation page and keep it somewhere safe! This page contains a confirmation number which also happens to include the date and time your form was received.
